My 2nd (of 3) granddaughter is DS – she was born prematurely on Ash Wednesday 4 years ago – her birthday is in a couple of weeks. She was due on Palm Sunday that year, which gives you an idea about how early she was.

her parents, my son Joel and his wife Nicole, are just amazing, and the times I’ve been privileged to be at their house and hang with the girls it’s been such a great time. When they called me to say she had been born that Ash Wednesday, I sat at my desk between services and cried for them – he had just come back from Iraq the previous summer, and this seemed to be another blow. But on the contrary, she has been an incredible blessing to all of us, she’s sweet and kind, musical, affectionate, smart, and just blown away so many of my preconceptions. So, good for you. It sounds like it’s been a bit of a journey for you this year, and it will continue to be, but God bless you on the road. And blessings on your music as well.

Ian also gives me the hugest grin when I walk in the door… and he’s not big on having my parents babysit him just yet either.

I think it’s so cool you’re a composer of liturgical music… my wife just rejoined a choir and loves that genre. You’ll have to post some one day. :)
