As you can tell, Kate, I'm finally getting around to doing some "leisurely" reading of my e-mail. That's why I'm so chatty on your blogs today. ;) Being the protestant girl that I am, I have to 'fess up to some hesitation to read this interview. Would it apply to me? Another confession (pardon the irony given the topic at hand)...when I read on Facebook recently that a Catholic friend of mine is expecting his and his wife's seventh child, there was no small amount of eye-rolling on my part. Enough already!, I thought. But I do like the emphasis on not being helicopter parents. It just isn't possible in families of two or more, I'd say. I can't remember ever meeting a self-absorbed person from a large family. So, to the notion of putting God and your marriage first and letting your children reap the benefits of those healthy relationships...I say "Amen!"

You changed your template, didn't you? I like it. I too have wondered, while chasing behind a bike-riding child, if one reason my mom didn't do such a thing (and gave us the independence to ride around the neighborhood by ourselves) was because with five kids in 10 years, she just flat couldn't.
