Lately the focus has been Julianna, so when Alex had this gem a minute ago, I just had to share.
“Mommy, why do you and Daddy get married a lot?”
“Uh…huh?” I said.
“Why do you and Daddy get married a lot?”
I was beginning to squirm. “Um, honey, you only get married once. Daddy and I got married once, and we’ve been married ever since.”
“But why do you and Daddy go and get married a lot?”
OK, clearly I didn’t understand the question. “We don’t get married a lot, Alex…I don’t understand what you mean. We go out on dates. Is that what you mean?”
“Oh, you go out on wedding dates?”
And the light went on. “Oh!” I said. “No, honey, we play music for OTHER people’s weddings a lot.”
That one took a lot of explaining, too, but I won’t bore you with that.

And fairly unique to our situation. 🙂 We don’t give a thought to saying “We have a wedding today,” and how confusing that might be to a small child! LOL
