Beautiful Souls

This is a tribute to all those beautiful souls out there. The ones whose sweetness and gentleness stop us in our tracks, whose placidity of spirit springs from what well of suffering or grace we don’t know.

This is a tribute to all those beautiful souls, who seem not to notice when someone condescends, insults, or tries to rile.

This is a tribute to all those beautiful souls, whose lips never let an unkind word pass them, whose generosity of spirit make us question the judgmental words that our own tongues trip over daily, hourly.

This is a tribute to all those beautiful souls, whose unselfconscious humility breathes calm into the lives of everyone they touch.

This is a tribute to all those beautiful souls, who don’t have to speak a word to evangelize their faith, but only to walk into a room.

This is a tribute to all those beautiful souls, whose example of how to live does not demand our allegiance, but draws our attention by its rarity among those we encounter.

I know you’re not perfect, because no one is. You must have your faults, your trigger points. But as the rest of us stumble through the grit and grind of a world full of annoyances, we regard you with amazement.

Do you yell at drivers who cut you off or block both lanes, causing you to come to a complete stop at the end of the interstate on-ramp? Do you have sharp words for your spouse, your sibling, your child? Do you really not see all that there is to outrage the soul,

This is a tribute to all those beautiful souls out there. You know who you are…or actually, you probably don’t. That’s the beauty of you.

But we do. We thank God daily for your example. You inspire us.
