A 5-minute catnap while I was waiting for Alex to come back from the toilet gave me just enough brain power to accomplish one small task today. My novel opening is complete. Chapter 1 is a whopping 240 words, but I think it’s done. (Powerful words: IT’S DONE. I don’t say them lightly.)
That’s the good news. The bad news is that I accomplished this by starting the novel in a different place–at the climax of the story. Now I have to back up nine months, take my original opening (well, it’s more like the 6th major rewrite of the original opening), and fix that.
Tomorrow. Not today. I’m shot.
