Alert: this post has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICAL VIEWS.
For those who might not know, John McCain’s runningmate, Sarah Palin, had a son in April of this year who has Down syndrome. I heard about her months ago in connection with DS, so I was surprised to hear who he had chosen.

The only thing I want to add is that, although the RATE of DS is higher in older mothers, the sheer NUMBER of children born with it is greater among younger mothers, because younger women have more children than older women.
Also, FYI (for family and friends who might not know much about it), that 95% of DS cases are completely random.
