Julianna’s Turn
I have to chuckle sometimes at the difference between my children. Alex began his life terrified of the vacuum cleaner, and at 3 ½ he remains highly skittish. The vacuum goes on, and Alex runs off and closes the door. (Check out the blog from June 23 of 2007.)
Julianna, on the other hand, chases the vacuum cleaner around the house. She crawls right into its path and plops down, staring at the light, squealing at it, and when it’s close enough to touch, she bangs on it. Julianna vs. the vacuum. This morning I had to physically push her out of the way with it, just so I could finish sweeping our bedroom. We used to worry that it was a sign of hearing trouble. How could she be so enthralled, when Alex was so terrified? But now we’ve finally had her hearing checked, and she passed with flying colors. So apparently, she just loves the vacuum cleaner.
We went to swim lessons this morning as usual. Now that Alex has acclimated, he does great every week (though, come to think of it, he did throw a screaming tantrum at the end today, but anyway…), and all the swim lesson drama comes from Julianna, who howls with outrage at being forced to put her head underwater, back float, etc. Last week, she got out early by shivering uncontrollably. (It was cold that day.) Today, fifteen minutes into lesson, she suddenly began to smell. Of course, she was wearing the reusable swim diaper. The one that pulls up. The one that you have to pull down the legs, dragging all the…well, you get the idea, let’s just not finish that sentence.
It’s the first time I’ve used a diaper like that, except for Alex’s training pants; we are a prefold/wrap and all-in-one cloth diapering family. It was definitely the first time I had to deal with a dirty one. And now I have great sympathy and respect for all those women who dealt with them all the time.
Well, on that smelly note, I’m closing off for today. Both kids slept poorly last night…and so did I. Nap time for one and all.
