1. I’ve got a couple of great slogans to share today. First, from Talking Rain Twist bottles: “As in Life, Chill for Best Results.”
2. Next, from my friend Michelle’s blog (she’s not public, so I can’t link you there): “My hands are full, my heart overflows.” A perfect response to the perennial annoying comment: Boy, you sure have your hands full, don’t you?
3. My mom and I are trying something that ought to work, at least in theory. About seventeen years ago, I found The Perfect Dress. It was a $29.99 rayon dry-clean-only thing at Sears, and although I didn’t care for the pattern on the material, it a) was flattering and b) fit perfectly. Now if you know me, you know that those two things simply do not exist for a woman with my body shape. Well, that dry-clean only dress has been stained beyond recall for several years, but I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of it. And then I had the thought: what if we tear it apart and use it as a pattern? So that is the project I have given my mom. I intended to help, but we picked a slippery fabric, and she told me that I, with my extremely limited sewing skills, would not be of much use. So I guess she gets to do it. 🙂
4. Speaking of clothes, yesterday I went through the kids’ closets to figure out what the little ones need for winter. The answer is: Nicholas–nothing. He’s got all of Alex’s clothes, without Alex’s gargantuan size, so he’s all set. Julianna, however, finally has outlasted the supply of free clothes. So tonight I get to go to Children’s Orchard and shop! (Happy dance!) If you’re not familiar with Children’s Orchard, you need to be. I hardly ever buy kids’ clothing new. It’s not garage sale prices (more like $3-6), but the quality is far better than your average garage sale clothing.
5. My favorite quote of the week (thanks to b-i-l Rob): “Football combines the two worst aspects of American life: it is violence punctuated by committee meetings.” George Will
6. My favorite video of the week: Marching Mizzou vs. Illinois drumlines. I love drumlines. Pleeeeeeze, kids, SOMEBODY become a drummer! PUHLEEEEEEEZE?
7. I am spoiled forever. On Wednesday, I got an email saying my post had been “upgraded” to Word Press’s “Freshly Pressed.” I had 739 hits by 1p.m. and ended the day at 1889. Craziness! (Yes, I’m pathetic. I know it.)
Have a great weekend!

3. That’s great! Be sure to share the final result with us!
7. Wow, congrats! That’s really neat!
#3 ~ Great idea, hope you enjoy the results.
#5 ~ Great quote!
We have some things in common–not crazy about football, but CRAZY about drumlines. If you’ve read my Quick Takes for long you know my son plays snare drum on the University of Nebraska drumline. It’s so cool. His sister is hoping to follow in his footsteps next fall. I think I’d probably pee my pants seeing them BOTH on the line!
And I love the slogan in #1.
Congratulations on so many hits! Only in my dreams do I ever reach that! What’s your secret?
Thanks for being a faithful reader. Have a great weekend, Kathleen!
I missed my calling. I should have been a drummer!
To #4 – love the resale childrens shops – I got Jillian a dress to wear to my cousin’s wedding (coming up in 3 weeks) for $4.50! It’s super cute and it’s one of those that would have been $20-$30 new.
3. That is exciting, take a picture when the dress is completed.
4. Thanks for the tip on Childrens’ orchard!
7. Wow, I am in awe!
#5–LOLOL! Love it!
