Sunday Snippets is a group of bloggers who gather once each week to share out best posts. This week, my only overtly religious reflection was on the subject of Paul’s advice to women (and men!)…but I had lots of motherhood moments to ponder.
I have just three links to share this week. The first is a segment from 60 Minutes that hooked me. It’s a pretty long video, and there are inescapable ads, I’m afraid…but the moment where I got “hooked” was about 4:50 in. A-mazing.
This is a link that was sent to me by a friend who has done a lot of research on the health care debate, and the bills as they come up. I confess I have not had time or energy to read this myself, but it is one perspective that apparently has been well-researched, so I present it for your perusal.
And finally–I know that my link posts are some of the least-visited on the blog, but if you only click one link today, it needs to be this one. My sister-in-law’s mother sent me the clipping from the Chicago Tribune, and I knew right away I had to share this with everyone. A professional photographer in Barrington, IL has created an exhibit of stunning photos of people with Down syndrome. In the article, one mother of a SEVEN-YEAR-OLD was told by her teacher that “her classmates’ parents had called in because they were uncomfortable with ‘having a kid like her’ in the class.” This kind of bigotry is what prompted photographer Thomas Balsamo to create this exhibit. You can watch a video here, or see some of the images here.
Thanks for the link on the Downs syndrome story. Very moving.
As the father of a Downs’ child I have found that those with Downs kids are the nicest people, while those who are uncomfortable to have a “kid like that around” are the meanest, most selfish people.
I consider myself tremendously blessed to have landed in a place where people are unfailingly sweet about my daughter. Nonetheless, it’s one thing to be sweet about a toddler. I’m sure our time is coming when she gets into school.
