After yesterday’s motherhood moment (it was a good one!), I decided it would be fun to list some schmaltzy, cheesy ’80s music I love. If you’re more in the mood for fiction, head over here for a bit more about Carlo and Alison. If you’re brave, take a little stroll down memory lane! But be warned…1980s vidoes are WEIRD. I’m finding that I’d rather just hear the songs! 🙂

(Incidentally, this song has been redone in a screamingly funny “literal” version you really must watch.)

Cheating with this one, as it comes from 1991, but this, to me, is the classic “night” song. Every time I hear it I am transported back to a blue Ford Tempo Galaxy at 1 a.m. as I was leaving Taco Bell after a closing shift.

There you go! How’s that for a trip down memory lane, 30/40- somethings? 🙂 What are your old favorites?

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
My all-time favorite 80’s song is Take On Me by A-ha…however some of my “faves” are: Tarzan Boy by Baltimora, Catch Me I’m Falling by Pretty Poison, Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money with Ronnie Specter, It’s My Life by Talk Talk, Oh Sherry by Steve Perry and Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard. Good choice of Cheap Trick and The Flame 🙂
And doesn’t it feel a little wicked to admit it, considering how many of these songs are about sex?
I’m repeatedly stunned as an adult how much I sang about sex as a preteen/teen (and didn’t do it!). I won’t even let the kids listen to some of the songs!!! I was really stunned when I first paid attention to the words of “Greased Lightening”. Grease was/is one of my favorites. Summer of ’69 is one of my and my kids’ very favorites!!
I think we didn’t listen to the words all that carefully. I admit I had a few hesitations about posting these today b/c I don’t know all the words, and I wondered what was lurking in these songs that I *didn’t* know about!
#5 ~ Time after time (I was always more into Cindi Lauper than Madonna)
Living on a Prayer, We Built This City, I think We are Alone Now & Almost Paradise
You know, Cyndi Lauper just epitomized ‘weird” to me at that age–although I loved the music too!–but she’s really quite talented, and these days is performing without all the punk paraphernalia, I think. I had three or four songs of hers that I wanted to include, but I thought that would be overkill. LOL
It was so fun for me when she started showing up on ‘Mad About You” one of my favorite shows in college.
I’d forgotten she did that! That wasn’t a show I watched much…that was in the long stretch of years when I really wasn’t watching any TV at all… so I know the show, but never really watched it. But I do remember seeing advertisements with her on it.
Oh man, I have memories for every single one of those songs. Excuse me while I go find my ipod . . .
